CHICKEN HAUNTS GEORGIA...C-BUS WINS

Columbus lead by some strong special teams play, was able to take out visiting Georgia Force Friday night at Nationwide Arena.Below is a quarter by quarter recap.
1st Q
Columbus, on defense first, is able to get a sack on QB Chris Greisen forcing him to fumble, in which Columbus would recover and turn into a 3-0 lead. Later in the Quarter after a Georgia touchdown and missed xp, Columbus would score again this time a touchdown to take a 10-6 lead. With Georgia driving at the Columbus 22, it was DB Jerald Brown who would step into the passing lane of Greisen intercepting the pass, giving the defense there second turnover.
2nd Q
On the first play after the Brown interception, it was Matt Nagy who would find OS Damien Groce, for a TD and a C-BUS 17-6 lead. After a Geo score, OS Josh Bush would return the following kickoff back for a touchdown and a C-BUS 24-13 lead. Following a busted coverage by C-BUS for the second time in a row, that lead to a Geo TD, C-BUS kept pace by scoring one of their own. Then for the second time in the game, Jerald Brown would once again intercept a pass, and it lead to yet another CLB touchdown. The TD would be the 17th point C-BUS had off of turnovers. Geo would score a TD late in the quarter because CLB was unable to stop Geo on 4th and 15 from the Geo 2. A kick catch interference on the preceding kickoff by GEO gave C-BUS a chance at a 38 yard field goal to end the half. K Peter Martinez would convert giving Columbus a 41-27 halftime lead.
3rd Q
Not much to say about the third quarter, other than it was sloppy. 2 missed fg's, and an interception didn't help CLB. The only thing that did was when CLB would break a tie at 41 with a D. Groce kickoff return for a touchdown, leaving Columbus with a 48-41 lead going into the final quarter.
4th Q
Things did not look good early. After a GEO score from 2yds out, they would recover the kickoff off the iron and score again taking a 54-48 lead, following a missed xp. After CLB was stopped yet again the defense knew it was time to come alive and that they did. They would stop the GEO offense setting up a CLB touchdown on 4th and goal from the 1. It was Matt Nagy again, using his legs for the second time in the game. A botched snap on the xp would keep the game tied at 54 with 1 min and 27 sec left. Columbus would attempt an onside kick that they didn't recover. It lead to a GEO TD with 46 seconds left. Now came the time for one of the best finishes to a football game I have ever seen. Down 61-54 CLB would convert on a 3 and 6 from the CLB 12. It was a long pass to David Saunders down field that was under thrown. Saunders luckily got away from his defender and caught the ball at the 7 for a first down. With 14 ticks left Columbus would move to within 1 on a pass to just activated before the game WR Marcus Knight. Columbus would call time to decide what they were going to do. They come out of the time out with the ball resting on the right hash of the 2. They were going for two. Nagy went back to pass, rolled out of the pocket and found Marcus Knight for the successful 2pt conversion and CLB 62-61 lead. Geo would have two plays left to do something. The 1st play they completed a pass to their own 15. On the next play they would throw it down field incomplete and the time ran out, but there was a flag. Doesn't matter it was against GEO anyway for offensive pass interference. Game over CLB wins 62-61 and the crowd of 12,000 plus was going absolutely berserk. Thanks for the help Chicken!

Finally, time to leave everyone a little something before i head on my way to the Beautiful Las Vegas. The Columbus Destroyers start their 2007 season today and they are on the road to take on the much hated Nashville Kats. With new key additions such as Matt Nagy (QB) and Damien Groce(OS) who know what is going to happen but i predict Columbus to come out on top.
